“He and She – the beginning of a relationship, a first date. It would seem that everything about this has already been said, played, sung, danced… Chopin’s piano preludes. How many times has this immortal music become the basis for stories about love? But therein lies the magic of art, where every author, touching upon timeless themes and subjects, draws new meanings and emotions from them – Orpheus and Eurydice, Romeo and Juliet, Chopin and George Sand… Yet my new ballet “Nine Dates” is not about them. The characters of the performance are an ordinary couple trying to begin their relationship. The first steps towards one another – touching, sometimes absurd, sometimes tragic. A mini-encyclopedia of first dates without needless moralizing and didacticism. Just two human solitudes trying to be together, and simply Chopin’s music”, – says Radu Poklitaru, principal choreographer of the “Kyiv Modern Ballet” Academic Theatre, about the production.
