About the show
Inspired by Thornton Wilder’s play of the same name, this ballet traces ninety years in the life of a single family, unfolding through an unbroken succession of Christmas dinners. Day after day, year after year, amid the futility of everyday bustle and the pettiness of ambitions and deeds, the characters’ lives rush past, leaving behind not even a glimmer on the glass sandclocks of eternity…

"The Long Christmas Dinner" is a ballet-contemplation about the fugacious life, filled with futile and useless actions which rob us of the precious moments, hours and years of our earthly existence. The story focuses on the ninety years in the life of the Bayard family, the years fleeting as a chain of Christmas dinners. The fates of the people are passing in a number of feasts and banquets. Like ephemeron butterflies, they dissolve in some non-existence leaving nothing to be remembered by in the future. Vigorous, grotesque choreography finds its easy way to each spectator's heart without any dogmatic moralizing and may start the audience thinking if they are any different from the characters on the stage?

"Це найбільш довготривалий проект у моєму житті, - розповів Раду Поклітару. - Виставу почали ставити у 2009 році. І ми всі пам'ятаємо, який це був важкий рік. Тоді ми поставили перші 15 хвилин п'єси. Прийшла криза і, на жаль, прем'єру відклали. Зараз, коли відновлювали з відеозапису ту частину спектаклю, зрозуміли, що більшість акторів - нові. Ми навіть жартуємо в театрі, що це настільки довгий проект, тому що саме так він і називається - "Довгий різдвяний обід".

Найпопулярніший девіз наших співгромадян на цей рік звучав як «Хто зна, що воно буде завтра?».
