Kyiv will host the premiere of a ballet to music by George Handel and Valentin Silvestrov.

Kyiv will host the premiere of a ballet set to the music of George Frideric Handel and Valentyn Silvestrov.

«DiscrimiNATION» is a series of novella-parables that have no direct connection to one another. These stories tell of various forms of discrimination and champion the values of the democratic world, focusing on the importance of tolerance and mutual understanding.

According to the vision of the founder and principal choreographer of the Academic Theatre «Kyiv Modern Ballet» Radu Poklitaru, the juxtaposition of two different musical worlds — the Baroque vocal and symphonic music of George Frideric Handel and the chamber piano music of contemporary composer Valentyn Silvestrov — underscores the dualism in approaching the ethical dimension of the problem of discrimination.

Incidentally, the music of the world-renowned Ukrainian composer Valentyn Silvestrov, the author of nine symphonies, will serve as the basis for a ballet for the first time.

The project is being carried out with the financial support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. The premiere of the ballet «DiscrimiNATION» will take place on 21 October in Kyiv, at the International Centre of Culture and Arts.
