Kyiv to host the premiere of the ballet “Tomorrow”, projecting a happy future after the war
For the first time during the full-scale war, the “Kyiv Modern Ballet” Academic Theatre presents on March 19 a new project — the contemporary ballet “Tomorrow” to music by Frédéric Chopin.
«We are currently living in very difficult times. It is hard to find a theme that would be in tune, in timbre and in emotion, with what the entire Ukrainian people are going through. And do we even need to look for one? That is why the idea of a story-driven narrative addressing the issues of the day was rejected at once. It seems to me that the brighter and more luminous the cultural product created during the war, the easier it will be for everyone to live through this dark time in our lives emotionally. The title of the production, «Tomorrow,» says that both the author and the artists are confident that «Tomorrow» will come, and that it will be exactly as we wish it to be,» – said Radu Poklitaru, chief ballet master of the Kyiv Modern Ballet Academic Theatre and Honoured Artist of Ukraine, speaking about the upcoming premiere.
As the theatre noted, at the heart of the idea behind the production «Tomorrow» is a story about us, about those who live here and now, who feel the fleeting nature of our time, who fight and work for the sake of Victory, who dream of a happy «Tomorrow.» By what we do, where we go and what we do at this very minute — we shape our future tomorrow, in a day, a week, a year. What our tomorrow will be like, we decide already today, and it is for the sake of that tomorrow that we live to the full.
«I hope that our choreographic fantasy entitled «Tomorrow,» set to the music of Chopin, will encourage everyone to imagine and project, in an abstract form, a happy future after the war ends. It will help to find what fosters resilience, will rescue us from negative emotions and will program us for such a bright, warm, happy «Tomorrow,» – said Poklitaru.
