Today it is important to see tomorrow
In this extremely difficult time that Ukraine is going through, it is very important not to sink into pessimism and hopelessness, but instead to gain a vision that tomorrow will surely come.
This is precisely the idea behind the new one-act ballet of the Kyiv Modern Ballet Academic Theatre, staged by Radu Poklitaru, whose premiere audiences could see at the IMCC. No less captivating was the first part — the one-act ballet “Up the River”, set to the music of Oleksandr Rodin; however, let us dwell on the premiere.
The action unfolds to the music of Chopin. Through the confident and graceful movements of the dancers, the audience can behold a genuine extravaganza of the affirmation of life. On the whole, it is about us as we are today. About those who live here and now, who feel to the smallest detail the fleetingness of our time, and who do everything possible so that the Victory we are all awaiting may finally come. So we dream of a happy tomorrow. And we must also project a happy future after the war ends.
“The all-conquering polyphony of movement, the music of Chopin, sunlight — all this is the one-act ballet “Tomorrow”. Such hope, such a thirst for happiness and Victory, such a catching of one’s breath from emotion has not been felt in a long time in works of art that reflect upon the present.

And that is indeed so. Therefore one can say with confidence that Radu Poklitaru’s idea of creating a luminous project that would help us endure dark times has succeeded. And the production’s title, “Tomorrow”, says that both the author and the artists are confident that tomorrow will come, and that it will be exactly as we wish to see it. Victorious! We, the audience, believe in this too.
