A bright tomorrow. Radu Poklitaru presented a new ballet with music by Chopin
For the first time since the start of the full-scale war, the “Kyiv Modern Ballet” Academic Theatre showed a premiere — the one-act choreographic production “Tomorrow” to music by Frédéric Chopin.
As a reminder, the repertoire of the company has already featured «Nine Dates», set to the melodies of the most renowned Polish composer, since the beginning of 2021.
The production «Tomorrow» was presented in Kyiv as part of an evening of one-act ballets. The new staging was set off by a ballet with a stage history of more than five years, «Up the River», set to the music of one of the most recognizable contemporary Ukrainian composers, Oleksandr Rodin.
Through elements of the old vanitas genre, this staging based on Fitzgerald’s story «The Curious Case of Benjamin Button» allegorically presents the vanity of vanities and the ambiguous deeds of the protagonist, whose life unfolds before the audience from old age to childhood.
The ballets are staged by Radu Poklitaru — chief choreographer of the Academic Theatre «Kyiv Modern Ballet», Honoured Artist of Ukraine.
He says: «It seems to me that the brighter and more luminous the cultural product created during the war, the easier it will be for everyone to emotionally endure this dark time in our lives».
The ballet «Tomorrow» — is a choreographic fantasy with yellow-and-blue light and an orange palette, a stage story about those who live here and now, who feel the fleeting nature of time and the war that must be won.
